Muncie Central JAG November & December 2009 Update

The Muncie Central JAG Class had a very busy November & December 2009. The JAG class hopes that everyone had a happy holiday season and looks forward to sharing January updates soon!

Guest Speakers

Micki Johnson, the Admissions Director at the Waters of Yorktown, discussed her career and experiences working within assisted living facilities. She inspired the JAG students by explaining how she began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant and advanced internally after receiving further training.

Dr. Marilyn Chalupa, an Associate Professor at Ball State University, stopped by to chat with the JAG students about the importance of education. She encouraged the students to focus on what they enjoy and search for professions that coincide.

The last guest speaker of the month was motivational Mark Bosler, a Partner of Scotty's Brewhouse. Mark shared details about his medical condition and the challenges he encountered after multiple life threatening surgeries. He told the students that it would have been easier to give up and let his health take over but he wanted more for himself. He offered his support to the students and advised them to invest in themselves.

Community Service

The Muncie Central JAG students volunteered 50 combined hours in November & 9 combined hours in December at the Boys & Girls Club. They tutored, organized activities, and supervised the children. This was a great opportunity to help out in their community.

The JAG students also spent 9 combined hours in November and 4 combined hours in December organizing donations and cleaning at the Attic Window.

In December the students spread their holiday cheer by Christmas Caroling at Muncie Health & Rehabilitation Center. They did an excellent job preparing, practicing, and visiting with the residence.

The Muncie Central JAG students bundled up and spent 4 hours over Christmas vacation helping the Second Harvest Food Bank distribute food at McCulloch Park for the holidays. The weather was frightful but the students were cheerful and worked as a team to ensure that the food was dispersed correctly.
